Massage Therapy FAQs

How can massages and bodywork benefit me?

Massage therapy and bodywork allow lactic acid to break down and flush into the kidneys through manual manipulation, pressure, flushing and elongating (stretching) of the muscles. The lactic acid is then further broken down and moved to the bladder for expulsion or back into the bloodstream if the oxygen can be used again later.

What are muscle cramping and spasms a.k.a “knots”?

Muscles need a variety of motions, if you repeat a motion too much it can bore the muscles you wish to build or exercise. Once the muscle gets bored, it goes into autopilot mode and can cause you to use improper form. It can further cause faster exhaustion or fibers can cramp from overactivity causing “knots” to form.

What type of massage should I get?

There are many different types of massages available for your body's needs. At Energize Massage we offer sports massage therapy, deep-tissue, myofascial release, and cranial-sacral massages. We also offer customized massages personally tailored for your health goals.

How often should I get a massage?

It is recommended to see your massage therapist as often as possible. On average most people will see their massage therapist once a week or once every two weeks. Your massage therapist can help you create a plan that will benefit you the most to achieve your desired results.

Can I get a massage while pregnant?

In general, it is safe to get massages while pregnant after the first trimester. There are many benefits to getting massages during pregnancy like relaxation, better circulation, and improved sleep. Certain pressure points can cause early contractions though so it is always advised to consult your doctor before starting massage therapy.

Why do I feel sore after my massage?

Feeling soreness in the muscles after a massage is normal. Soreness occurs as a healing response to inflammation of the muscles after a massage because the muscles are being worked and exercised.

What should I wear during my massage?

During a massage, you are able to wear whatever makes you the most comfortable. It is advisable to wear stretchy and loose-fitting clothing when choosing to stay clothed. Removing your clothes does allow your massage therapist to be able to work more thoroughly. When guests choose to stay clothed no lotions or oils are used.
